Screwin' over the Little Guy

Holy crap. The Supreme Court just ruled that local cities can condemn and take your property for PRIVATE development.

The Supreme Court just took a big dump on the Fifth Amendment. What a horrible day for our freedoms.

Those with money can now force you from your property and home in order to construct what they like.

"nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." If anything, this should be a STATE issue... but the Constitution and Bill of Rights should still cover it.

Read about it:
Yahoo!
CNN

I feel: =( ANGRY

did they have to pay the guy for the land/building? They do that shti all the time if they did, for roads and stuff definatly, so if they paid him I'm not surrprised.

Let's read that part in the Fifth again: "nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

PRIVATE property for PUBLIC use.

This is PRIVATE for PRIVATE. Fuckers.

If anything, this should really be a state's rights issue - not a federal one. However, the state pushed it to the big Court and now we're all screwed by big money.

I guess I'll just have to be rich.

A friend of mine in Tampa here said that it would be funny if some billionare used the new law to buy out the supporting judges homes. =P

As long as he got what the house was worth I see no problem with this at all. Why should a town not be able to upgarde it's self? Wouldn't it be strange to have a house int he middle of downtown libertyvile randomly? Ya, it would. So if the town wanted it to not look like hell and be able to make a downtown that didn't randomly have a house in it, shouldn't they be able to?

If they didn't pay him enough for the house, then that's the outrage but the outrage isn't that they made him move.

if it's not a town, county, state, federal, or some type of widely recognized or easily idetifiable monument, historical site, or something similar. If it isn't, I'd say that sucks, but that's just kinda tough for you and you'll just have to deal.
